The Friends of Genesee County Animal Shelter Volunteer Group was formed in April 2007, the result of a single volunteer who believed the animals who were once loved by the people of Genesee County deserved better odds at a lifetime of happiness. Animals were kept as strays for 7 business days, then, although they were eligible for adoption, most were euthanized because no one went to the Shelter to adopt. Owner surrendered animals were sometimes placed up for adoption but could also be euthanized immediately, even though the space was available and they were not aggressive because no one went to the Shelter to adopt. Animals were not being marketed to the public or rescues. These unfortunate animals were brought to the Shelter and sentenced to die because no one knew they were there. After several weeks of volunteering, Becki decided to take on the task of "getting the word out" for these unfortunate animals. She formed the Friends of Genesee County Animal Shelter volunteer group, counting on the many pet lovers in the county to rally behind and with her to help.

Hawkeye & Friends is a non-profit animal rescue. We are dedicated to saving abused, abandoned and neglected companion animals. Hawkeye & Friends is a no-kill rescue, which means we do not put animals to sleep because they are hurt, sick or old. We provide all necessary medical care & treatment. We give our animals the care & love they need while we look for permanent homes for them. The animals we do not find homes for stay with us for the rest of their lives.
No need to wait for a "Senior Citizen Day" each month to get a bargain at the Shelter. Every day is special for senior citizens and senior animals at MAS. There is NO CHARGE to senior citizens for adopting senior animals. Any day of the week. Any day of the month. The Shelter considers residents that are four years or older as seniors and they qualify for free adoptions.

Pet Angels is a group of volunteers who love dogs and spend our spare time and personal dollars helping dogs in need. Some help by fostering, some by posting dogs in need and homeless dogs for other shelters, some by looking for "match" dogs for people looking for a specific description dog, and some help by picking up shelter dogs and transporting them to new homes. None get reimbursed for their services, but the happy wag of a tail is reward enough when a dog finally makes it from that scared little orphaned dog into a happy home of it's own.
